Member Story: Katherine’s Financial Wellness Story

For 39-year-old Katherine, the Credit Union was a lifeline when she was treading water in a sea of bad credit.

“I knew I needed to work on my credit but didn’t know exactly where to start,” said Katherine, who joined the Credit Union five years ago. “I was paired with an amazing Credit Union staff member who told me where I was and what I needed to do to get where I wanted to be. She’d call regularly to see where I was in the process and to offer her assistance where it may be needed.”

Katherine, who works in DFW Reservations, was delighted to find a number of educational opportunities available to help her along the road to better credit, including classes as well as one-on-one attention.

“The classes showed me how to fix my score to reach my long-term goal. Seeing the progress on paper, I could definitely see the light at the tunnel,” she said. “I went in and explained my situation and need for a personal loan. The staff was there to listen and provide me with the options that would work for me and not against me.”

“Their knowledge has helped lift the financial burden that many of us know well and don’t like to admit,” Katherine added.“ And I never feel like I am being judged. They are all ears with a solution.”

She’s also glad that the Credit Union is helping her pass along the good habits she’s learned to her teen-aged daughter as well as her 8-year-old son.

“I have a 17-year-old daughter who is a member preparing to go off to college after her senior year,” Katherine said. “She has her own account and has attended financial courses offered for teens to prepare them for building credit.”
