Out for lunch with a friend and need to send them money on your phone? With such a wide assortment of personal payment apps and options out there –  Cash App,™ Venmo,® Paypal,™ Apple Pay,® Google Pay,™ Zelle,® etc. – it can be challenging to figure out which one is best for you. But before you head to the app store, download another app and input a bunch of personal banking info, check out our personal payment feature, Send Money.

 

How does it work?: 

  • Send to anyone, even if they aren’t a Credit Union member.
  • Your friend can determine how they want to receive the funds : Paypal, Venmo or to a checking account with a debit card.
  • Send a recurring payment or schedule a payment for the future.
  • Note: You must have a checking account and debit card to use this service.

How to send money:

  • Click here to get started  or log into online banking and select "Payments & Transfers" and then "Send Money."
  • To send a one-time payment, enter your friend's email or phone number and the amount you want to send. Click “Transfer Funds.”
  • To send a scheduled or recurring payment, click on the clock icon and enter your friend's email and the amount you want to send. You can select never (one-time payment), weekly, or monthly. Please note: Scheduled and recurring payments can only be sent to an email address.

How your friend receives money:

Note: This service does not include an option for you to request or receive funds at this time.

  • Your friend will receive a link via text or email alerting them that the funds are ready to be transferred.
  • They will then make the choice to receive the money via Venmo, Paypal or into a checking account.
  • If your friend is a Credit Union member or their financial institution is within the Send Money network, the funds will be transferred directly to their Credit Union account.

Note : As with any personal payment option, it's best to only send money to people you know. No other personal information – such as their account number – is necessary, which provides an added sense of security.

Send Money can only be used by your friend to send money to you if their financial institution provides it for them.

You can use your friend’s email or phone number. If you want to send a recurring or future payment you must use their email address.

The contact information for your friend is associated with an account that's in the Send Money network. The money was deposited in your friend’s checking account with no additional steps needed.

The funds will be returned to your checking account after 72 hours if your friend has not collected them.  

Your friend can choose to receive the funds via Paypal, Venmo or their checking account. If your friend’s financial institution is in the Send Money network, your friend will automatically receive the money directly to their checking account.

Send Money only works from a checking account with an active debit card.

Transfer of money is secure but, as with any personal payment service, you should never send money to someone that you don't know personally.

The Credit Union doesn't have Zelle integrated into the online banking platform, therefore you can't receive or send funds with Zelle.  

While Send Money doesn’t offer the ability to receive funds, we are continuing to make regular upgrades and enhancements.

In the meanime, you can receive money from a friend using Venmo, Paypal, Cash App, Apple Pay and other digital platforms.  

As the digital payments landscape continues to evolve, Send Money regularly makes changes and updates. Send Money is planning on integrating Zelle in the future, but no timetable is currently available.
